I am so honored that Ed Cabellon (@edcabellon) asked me to be a part of the Student Affairs Technology UnConference as the host for the TEXAS edition!

The #satechTX UnConference is one of thirteen unconferences to be held throughout the US and Canada in 2013.  This year’s theme is “Women in Technology”.

In order to foster an environment of collaboration and networking, there will only be 100 spots available.  As I write this post, there are only 20 spots left!  You can RSVP for this free unconference HERE.

I am also very excited about announcing who the Keynote Speakers will be this year!

{DRUMROLL please!}

teribump

The Opening Keynote will be delivered by Teri Bump (@tbump), Vice President of University Relations/Student Development at American Campus Communities, inspirational blogger, and creator of the hashtag #WLsalt (Women Leaders – Support, Affirm, Lift, Transform).

drpaine1The Closing Keynote will be delivered by Dr. Gage E. Paine (@GagePaine), VP for Student Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin.  Dr. Paine oversees the Office of the Dean of Students, the Counseling and Mental Health Center, the Division of Housing and Food Service, the Division of Recreational Sports, Texas Student Media, the Texas Union, University Health Services, the Student Activity Center, Texas Parents and the Office of Assessment.

I chose this year’s #satechTX theme to be: Women in Technology so that we could highlight the great work that women are accomplishing in technology in higher education.  I also wanted to provide a platform for women in Texas to connect so that we could begin building a community of support.  When I think of professionals who use technology to demonstrate positive leadership and to lift others towards success, there are few who do it better than Teri and Gage.  I am very excited about having them at #satechTX 2013!

RSVP here.

The Student Affairs Technology UnConference History

In 2011 and 2012, Ed Cabellon (@edcabellon), Kat Cometta, Kenn Elmore and many others hosted the first Student Affairs Technology UnConference events in Boston.  In 2013, the model has been expanded to 13 other sites across US and Canada.

The mission of the UnConferences are:

  1. To connect those in our profession interested in learning and sharing knowledge about technology in student affairs.
  2. To expose folks to the “UnConference” model of professional development and learning.
  3. To foster unique opportunities for networking, by building something together, onsite, through the common interest groups.

Read more about the SA Tech UnConferences here.

Looking forward to seeing you in Austin on May 31st!

In April of 2013, I was asked to present at the Association of Theological Schools – SPAN conference in Scottsdale, AZ.  It was a wonderful experience and I always enjoy sharing ideas with other enrollment managers working at theological education institutions.

Please comment if you attended my presentation.  I would love to continue the conversation regarding data in enrollment management.

This post originally appeared in the May 2012 issue of NASPA Latino/a Knowledge Community Newsletter.  Attending college at all, much less earning a graduate degree, was not a forgone conclusion in my home when growing up, nor is it now for tens of millions of young Latinos today.  College success for Latinos is an issue [...]

A few nights ago, my husband and I went out to dinner to celebrate the New Year. We began discussing his resolutions for 2012. As we discussed all of his wonderful resolutions, he paused mid-way through our conversation and simply said, “…so, ‘Love more’ – what does that mean?” He was referring to my tweet [...]

Drawing Inspiration from Strangers

When I was coaching, I was inspired all the time.  Yes, being a coach fed my insatiable competitiveness, and being around athletes kept me youthful.  However, my coaching days gave me the opportunity to empower young girls, and I’m most proud of seeing what amazing women they have become. I moved from one male dominated [...]
